Want to fabricate a ripper tooth form my CAT 312 excavator.New rippers cost too much money; its a no go there.Need one piece steel about 30 inch long, width minimal of 4 inch - maximum 12 inch, I and cut excess off, thickness at least 2 inches up to 3 inches.Any sources for this size steel plate?I will truck freight it to my shop. The ripper is like on the back of a dozer, but its mounted to a bracket that is attached to where a excavators bucket is located on the digging stick.Steel type, not A36, would like 110,000 steel. What suggestions you provide will be appreciated, I have run out of options with my attempts in locating this steel plate.Last edited by zapster; 03-04-2012 at 06:34 PM.
Reply:I don't really know that this is the proper place for you to put your ad. BUT if they do leave it up here, I'd say you'll have a lot better luck if you post plans for what you're trying to build, or a picture of a similar implement. Posting your location might help too.You might try running a "wanted" ad on your local Craigslist. Several of the more rural scrap yards in my area will sell whatever u can find in their yard slightly over scrap prices. Also, the workers there generally know where to point you in your search...Last edited by zapster; 03-04-2012 at 06:35 PM.

Reply:What makes you think that a ripper main plate is made from 110 ksi alloy steeland not A36? (...and don't tell me it has to be that way--otherwise it will break,)(I had an 9', 2" thick plate, cable laying ripper with hinged chute, for D8, in forrepair. It was A 36. 2000#.)Last edited by zapster; 03-04-2012 at 06:36 PM.Reason: grammar correction, additionBlackbird
Reply:Check with a farm implement dealer. A ripper shank would be about the right size for you. I don't know what steel they're made of. I've rebuilt quite a few so the tips would quit falling off. I'd imagine some people would just replace them.http://www.smithweldingshop.com/prod...Pulverizer.jpgLast edited by zapster; 03-04-2012 at 06:37 PM.My name's not Jim....

Reply:I have tried machinery traded site for old equipment being parted out, yards do not want to sell shanks with out the rest of the dozer ripper attachment, at least those that replied to my inquires.I figured with the stress the ripper shank would have on it from the excavator, 110,000 steel would work better then A36 steel. Any information correcting my thoughts would be appreciated. On the web sites manufactures claim their rippers for excavators are high strength steel, even T400 steel.Ok Ok on first post I misspelled plate as plat the "e" was not typed.Does anyone know where spell check is located on this web forum site?Last edited by zapster; 03-04-2012 at 06:37 PM.
Reply:I don't think there is spellcheck here on this site but I will fix your title..Give me a minute....zap!Last edited by zapster; 03-04-2012 at 06:38 PM.I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
