Trading welding for dog training....a Pause Table

Have a 24 lb hoodlum growing like a bad weed that could use a few lessons as well as my big girl. So here's the deal.... build a few agility pieces of equipment in return for training lessons.  This piece pictured below is what's called a "pause table," you've seen those events where the dog runs obstacles.  The purpose of this table is for the dog to jump on it and stay until told to continue. It has different height of legs for various sizes of dogs.  It ought to hold a 120 lb dog and then some.

Reply:Nice platform / table. Have you thought about putting a hinge in the middle so it can fold like a suitcase? You could stow the legs inside. That would make the  platform more portable.

Reply:Yup, different leg-height pieces are usually used for different table heights (different breeds use different heights).  8-16-24 (most common for AKC-santioned events) or 12-16-24 heights are 'common'.Regs on the table size (AKC-sanctioned) specify 36 inches square (+/- 2 inches), with the 'apron' being 3 inches or more in height.  Table-top specified as being "non-slip" (carpeting may be used, other non-slip options include non-skid paint or non-slip rubber matting/coating, among other possibilities).  The height spec tolerance is "within 1 inch".Table-top color specified as 'light in color, no dark colors' (to prevent heat build-up from the sun).Table apron/edge color suggested to be 'contrasting' to the top surface and other ring colors (ring gating), so the dog has a visual contrast.  Remember though, that dogs don't see colors the same way we do.You probably already got all the specs from the trainer/club or looked them up.  If not, just an FYI.  Yeah, agility is 'cool'.  The best laid schemes ... Reply:Moon Rise--Thanks for the info I did do a bit of research not wanting to ever hear that a dog was disqualified or the event in question because it wasn't within the regs.  The legs are fixed so that the top with plywood is exactly 8, 16 and 24 inches from floor.  A rubberized coating will be placed on the deck and yes the contrast is a big deal. Not sure what color she will select for powder coating but is aware of the regs concerning color.  It is nothing short of amazement watching her dogs, or any for that matter, in competition.  Thanks for the details. Paplion--a sleve and pinned arangement is a good idea but the legs needed to be adjustable for uneven ground.  I had thought of it then came to the conclusion it was much less hassle for me and I didn't need to fight trying to find the sleeved tubing.  My supplier is a meat and potatoes kind of steel shop. Forhire--where were you during the sketch up a hinge would be good.  I am figuring out a way to hold the legs under the deck when not needed. The_Blacksmith--yeah the big one is a toothless hillbilly and probably can't be training to do much of anything......although he can beg for more tools.....DSW and everyone else thanks.
