My brother-in-law saw this fan on the curb with a "Free, take me" sign. He grabbed it and gave it to me. I took it apart today and cleaned it (pretty dusty/greasy). It was a floor model, and I wanted it on the ceiling, so I took off the bottom part of the bracket/stand and built a bracket to mount it to the ceiling. The mount for the ceiling also rotates (manually)Small project, but it was fun--and it didn't cost me that much to build. Reply:Few more pics . . . .Forgot to mention.... I would have used round tubing, but didn't have any the right size. Had some square tubing though that was about the right size. Reply:Pretty slick idea, I have a fan that could use the same treatment. How does the fan attach to the mount? I see the tubing on the fan slides inside the mount but is there a set screw or something to keep it there?
Reply:Yes, at the bottom of the post is a 1/4" thick cap with a 1/2" hole in it. I ran a bolt through it, welded the head so it wouldn't move, then ran the bolt all the way through the square tubing. You can kind of see what I mean in this pic: Attached ImagesThe Lord has declared, "This is my work and my glory--to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man" Moses 1:39Link: My name is John, and I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.-- ColdCreekWorks.com --
Reply:That's pretty slick... and the price was right. Can you reach the control from the ground or do you have to use a step stool?
Reply:I like it. How thick is that round plate that mounts to the ceiling? Reply:Nice idea. I have to remember this. I have a few floor fans that I use all the time and this would solve some of the space issues using it to keep the heat even in the store room at the shop in the winter..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
