I am cutting a lot of items they are painted or rusted, I was using a Victor JR set, and Propane. Won this Cut only torchhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...T#ht_500wt_949A smith SC 225 it is so very sexy. anyway I have a sc50-0 tip and set the pressure at 10 for the propane and 40 on the oxy, what is happening is I get a good cut going and loose it, it just kind of quits cutting. Any pointers on what I am doing wrong? to slow? to fast? more or less pressure? Thanks guys.MN
Reply:It sounds as if you're moving along the cut path too fast or you aren't heating it enough before starting the cut. -MarcLast edited by fronty_78; 05-26-2011 at 10:19 PM.Reason: Erroneous wording.
Reply:i would guess you are either getting too far from the work or you are speeding up and beginning to cut too fast.Hope this helpsRyan_______________________OF COURSE I DON'T LOOK BUSY... I DID IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME
Reply:how thick of material are you cutting. Maybe a bigger tip or as said slow down your travel. Depending on how rusty your stuff is rust acts as a insulator and doesnt cut good. try knocking flakey rust off with a hammer.Millermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer
Reply:Go to Smith's web site and print out their tip chart. It will list pressure settings and what thickness each tip work at. Then the rest is up to you.
Reply:Be sure to adjust your warming holes so that one of them is exactly pointed in the direction you are wanting to cut. If they are already then the stuff already said.. and the possibility you need to angle the head more in the direction of the cut so the prewarming is happening farther in front of the cut .Weldandpower Lincoln 225 AC,DC with Briggs 16hp gas engine.WW2 era Miller TIG.
Reply:I forgot to bid on that one. I was watching it and........ You got lucky...this time!!!Either you moved too fast at one point or you hit rust. Moving too fast is a little more forgiving, meaning you can usually get it cutting easily. But you will have a hole where you stopped. Rust, plain ole sucks. It's worth the time to get it clean, or it becomes very frusterating. Enjoy your new torch. I'm still looking for a 75* head."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:NICE torch. I run a slow preheat pass over the area to be cut, which also burns off the paint. Ensure the preheat flame tips touch the metal to be cut.

Reply:Originally Posted by Hades12Stick-man I am real glad you missed it. But after using it I would say it is well worth buying one new if you use it a lot. I was not looking for the 75* head I just wanted a Cut only but I really like both features. Thought I wanted a shorter one also but the 21" is real nice. |
