I'm looking at starting my own CWI business on the side but in not sure what the rates are? Anyone care to share what they charge for each test, show up time and hourly rate? Thanks, much appreciated
Reply:Anybody?
Reply:It varies as to what code your testing under, structural, piping, ect....It also depends on if you plan on testing on-site or at your own facility. The other variable is are you going to supply testing materials? I am over 3 locations and each one charges a little different for what all they do. We test 95% under API 1104/ASME IX piping procedures. For the API Multi-Qualification tests we charge per testing coupon, around $2000.00 per welder. Around $1500.-$1800. for an ASME IX test. This is us furnishing testing materials. An hourly rate for most CWI's in my area is around $65.00 hr......give or take due to experiance. Hope this helps, good luck.A young green pipe welder asked an old salt one day...How can I make the weld on the bottom of the pipe look like the top.......The old salt replied....Screw up the top......
Reply:Thanks for the help, yea I would be AWS d1.1 ect and API 1104. Most likely it would be structural steel code as that is the main industry I'm in already. One local cwi I talk to his says he charges 250 a plate test, that's just him picking up welded plate and then cutting and bending them, pass or fail. 450 for pipe test. That's all using a aws standard PQR and WPS. He also said he charges 200$ show up, for up to to hours. Anything over a hour drive goes up from there. |
