I started using my Oxy-acetylene welding tip yesterday for the first time, and i keep getting a weird noise when i introduce the oxygen. It sounds like an air horn. The flame looks normal but it is really noisy. It is a harris torch (im not sure what size tip). I have the fuel on 5 psi and the oxygen on around 40 psi. What am i doing wrong?HTP Invertig 201 w/coolerLincoln Pro-MIG 175Lincoln Squarewave 300 TIGMM251
Reply:Well, for one, the oxygen and acetylene pressures should be roughly the same for a welding tip.Try starting with 5psi on each, or check Harris' guidelines.
Reply:generally 4-7psi for each for welding depending on tip size, cutting tips require 5-10psi acetylene and 35-45psi oxygen. Never set you acetylene regulator beyond 15psi because acetylene becomes unstable above those pressures and is not safe for use |
