Where to get personally owned tanks hydro'd and filled in CT

A few weeks back I found a pair of 200 size(?) tanks left on the side of the road for trash, homeowner happened to be in the driveway and said they're mine if I can pick em up.  The newest Hydro date I found was in the 60's.  I've been told some places won't test or refill that size tank that is not leased through them, one also needs a new valve.  I know Tech Air in Naugatuck has the re-valving machine but will I run into problems with them being my own tanks?~Alex
Reply:Cranston welding supply filled my large tanks. i don't know about the testing.
Reply:Depends. Every place is a bit different so you pretty much have to ask. Some places have no issues filling or swapping any cylinder. Others are pretty picky. Given a choice, try to go with an independent supplier vs a big chain. They are usually more willing to take large "owner" cylinders, but you may have to wait to get them sent out, filled and returned. I used to be able to get a lot of my large cylinders filled no problem, but all the small independents have been bought up by the big chains now and they only want to deal with their own stuff.That said I've had guys who really didn't care as long as I had a cylinder to swap. That, plus a COD account has helped me manage to trade in a few of my useless large cylinders that I own for "company" cylinders that I can swap with  no problems. I could care less if they want them back at some point, they don't do me any good anyways, and on paper they don't show up as every time I bring one in I have a cylinder to swap..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:There is a Maine-Oxy in Naugatuck as well, it used to be IGS, same employees there and they have always been very friendly.  I'll have to hit them up on a Saturday.Thanks.
