ok i have a lincoln 175 square wave tig welder and my gas is set to 20, i have a 1/16 tungsten with #5 cup and when i weld the puddle seems to pop and the tungsten fills with metal almost like you dip it into the puddle, i dont know what im doing wrong? Attached Images
Reply:You're not prepping your material. My name's not Jim....
Reply:Boostinjdm got it, unlike other processes, TIG has to be clean.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:I see several issues. One that cut edge is probably "contaminated" from the plasma or OA cut. 2nd the plate doesn't look like it's been cleaned and ground. Tig won't tolerate contaminating like rust. slag or scale like some other processes will. It needs to be clean shinny metal or you will have issues. I can easily see you pulling chunks of that slag/dross into the weld pool and having major issues with your bead.1/16" tungsten seems small for what looks like 1/8" or larger material. Try 3/32". Also get in the habbit of listing all the perameters, tungsten type ( red, green etc) amps being used and roughly how much pedal, type and thickness of material to be welded, size and type of filler, type of gas ( you'd be surprised how many new guys try and use mig gas rather than 100% argon) and so on. The more info we have the less guessing we have to do.Edit: I see Boostnjdm beat me to it..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:thanks for the help guys, ill try it out!
Reply:pure argon gas...?HTP Invertig 201Lincoln Idealarc SP250Miller 180 AC StickBy farmall:They should have held the seagull closer to the work, squeezing evenly for best deposition.
Reply:Ensure BOTH sides of the metal are clean.  I'd also recommend that you start your setups with Miller's online TIG calculator...http://www.millerwelds.com/resources...calculator.phpDSW... according the the Miller Computer, 1/16 tungsten is okay for 1/8" thick steel.. other setting that I see different is a lower set point for argon gas.. 11 cfh --zip
