Our company just got a sub arc. We are testing it out to see what its all about. Does anyone have suggestions on the angle and position of the weld head?
Reply:Angle straight up and down unless you're trying to do a fillet weld, then you angle it in. The head on mine at work is moveable so you can get around stuff that tries to come round and jam you up. Just for instance, the other night I was welding a 12 inch piece; a 90 and straight run onto another straight run, you position the head all the way towards the 90 so you have more room for the pipe to turn without hitting the rest of the machine, the hopper, specifically.sorry, I'm assuming you're using it for pipe, if stuctural, never mind, I don't know.Last edited by TimmyTIG; 11-06-2013 at 01:46 PM.
Reply:It is for pipe. Thank you. That is kind of what we figured.
Reply:Here's the Lincoln old timey sub-arc manual -> http://www.lincolnelectric.com/asset...dL-61/c550.pdfAbout page 35 it goes into roundabout welds (torch location offset by diameter) and has some info re: amps/section/travel speeds.Good luck, I think you're gonna like it,Matt
Reply:Hi, I worked with sub arc for 3 years and the gun was always straight up.Ian.
Reply:You do want to set it about an inch past top dead center on smaller pipe or it will tend to make a roostertail in the center of your weld.
Reply:Thanks for all your responses.
