The third time I got stuck in my plow truck, I decided to mount a removable winch. Here are some picks Attached ImagesMillermatic® 252 w/ Spoolmatic® 30AHypertherm Powermax65Jet 5" x 6" Horizontal / Vertical Bandsaw DEWALT 14in. Abrasive Chop SawThemal Gel so the welding doesn't melt my Igloo

Reply:I cut 2 holes in the 3/4 plate on the back of my bed and welded in 2 receiver hitch's. I then mounted the winch to 2 hitch extenders and welded 1/2x3x8 plate on the end to bolt the rollers to. Works like a champ, just need to eat your Wheaties to mount it.Millermatic® 252 w/ Spoolmatic® 30AHypertherm Powermax65Jet 5" x 6" Horizontal / Vertical Bandsaw DEWALT 14in. Reply:Looks great, love that you made a mount that can work on all of your vehicles/trailers. If I may make a suggestion (after years of playing with winches) is run a support or two between your two 'legs'. We all know that off-center sideways pulls are hard on winches, but we always do them. And with the only thing holding it square being the fairlead, I have a feeling under a hard pull it may tweak enough to damage either the fairlead, or crack the mounting tabs off the winch. Run a tube or two between the two hitch extenders. I'm bad with text based directions. Something like this |=| (with the pipes being your hitch extenders, and the equal being the new pipe/crossmember/whatever).Miller: 200dx, Bobcat 225, Passport, Powermax 45, Milwaukee: Dry Saw, MagDrill, grinders
Reply:Also, use Anderson connectors on everything! They come with crimp or solder lugs for the size wire you are going to run. Make sure to buy the handles that bolt to them! I run the 150A ones. My big diesel has an electric winch, with Andersons connecting the winch to the battery. I have a set of 22' 2gauge jumper cables that end in an Anderson, so to jump someone I just unclip the winch and hook up the cables. They're cheap if you buy them on ebay (and 1/10th the price of 4wheelparts or Northern Tools). My little fjz80 doesn't have a winch yet, but I've already run the 0gauge welding leads from the battery (Platinum PM-1 (Odyssey 2150)) and have a little 15' 4g jumper set for it. It comes in handy!Miller: 200dx, Bobcat 225, Passport, Powermax 45, Milwaukee: Dry Saw, MagDrill, grinders
Reply:Thanks Joe and Ed. John, I just got done welding an 8x3 C channel 33 inches bolted between the frame rails and tomorrow I will run 2 2x2 tubes as you suggested on the winch mount. Thanks for the suggestion. The electrical connections are all 120 amp with 2 gauge wire and Anderson connectors crimped with my new crimper, the specs call for a 60 amp draw for the winch motor.Last edited by AKwaterman; 03-27-2012 at 12:25 AM.Millermatic® 252 w/ Spoolmatic® 30AHypertherm Powermax65Jet 5" x 6" Horizontal / Vertical Bandsaw DEWALT 14in.
