I am ready to learn TIG welding after messing around with MIG and getting the hang of it. I built the entire exhaust and turbo manifold of my current car toy out of it.. didnt do that bad of a job and its still leak free to this day after an year and 20k of abuse from heat cycles. I am looking to stay under $1,000 bucks and looking for opinions. I have an Cheap Harbor Freight MIG welder, but i have had to replace it 3 times over 2 years so i am thinking i may stay away from the Harbor Freight Welders for a TIG. The Welder i have been looking at is the:PowerTig 185 Micro $849If you have better option for me let me know and why.. Also do welders go on sale on blackfriday?? just curious... This is what i plan to build in the near future.. with the welder...
Reply:Ill hook you up with a stellar deal on a the 250 model with the plasma cutter. for $650 shipped. throw in a bunch of consumables and an extra Torch. If you are around Atlanta i can throw in a bottle of Gas as well.http://www.everlastgenerators.com/Po...0P-371-pd.html
Reply:If you've already been burned by HF, why would you go with something low end again? The ability to do aluminum with AC will cause a major price jump.I'd personally look for a used name brand TIG (Miller, Lincoln, ESAB, Thermal Arc). You could get a transformer machine within your budget, but you'll need to power to feed it. Like 50 amps of 220V minimum. You probably will not be able to kill the machine. For a new inverter with AC, the TA 186 is tough to beat at its price. It's almost double your budget though. If that's your garage, you have room. The Miller 330 A/BP is badass and bullet proof. 835 lbs, the size of a fridge, needs 100 amps to feed it well. You cannot kill it and can sell it if you change your mind. The options are endless. See what you find and post it up here before buying for the pros and cons. Buy once and buy right. You get what u pay for.Last edited by Drf255; 11-16-2013 at 06:13 AM.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:From my understanding the welder i listed is capable of welding aluminum.. ill have to look over it again.. i thought everlast was considered a good welder... i see them used by so many people in the performance car shops.... |
