Question for the knowledgeable. I have a 33 Pontiac grill thats in tough shape. To compound this I need to shorten it because I channeled the front of the body. The grill is made of brass and is nickle plated (I think). Not sure of the exact thickness but the ribs are U shaped. My plan is to cut in the middle, shorten and rejoin. I would like to get the piecre plateded when done. I'd like to take a crack at doing it myself but not sure what method would work best. My other thought was to send it out to be done by an expert at this type of repair. Thanks in advance.

Reply:Here are some pictures. Although this doesn't look to bad. The ribs need to be straightened and the lower part of the grill is missing. However I have another grill coming that has some other problems. I plan to make one good one out of the two. Attached Images

Reply:i would get the lower piece and chop the grill at the bottom.. same goes for the shroud, I would section it towards the bottom.. are you certain its brass, many of those old grilles were stainless.Last edited by brucer; 11-15-2013 at 01:13 AM.tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/

Reply:After reading my post I didn't give enough info to go on or pictures to support what I have to do. So here is a picture of a 34 grill (same as a 33) original except the crank hole has been replaced with ribs. I also have another grill coming that has most of the lower half. My earlier pictures didn't show that part because I don't have the lower half at this time. SO! Since I channeled the front of the body I must shorten the grill a good 3" or 4" to get the desired rake I'm looking for. SORRY for any confusion. It is plated, thought not sure if it's chrome or nickel. I took a wire wheel to it to remove the plating and it is brass. Attached Images
