Hi,is there any formula for heat input calculation for gas welding and oxy-acetylene cutting? Thanx a lot in advace.
Reply:Interesting Here's my guess.Consider the following hypothetical weld settings (rough guess) for a 3/32 thick steel butt weld.Heat input for TIG weld: Amps = 90, Volts = 9, travel speed = 3 inch/min.90 A x 9 V x 60 sec./min. x min./3 inch = 16,200 Joules/inch Heat input for OxyAcetylene weld:tip size = 1, pressure = 3 psig, Victor chart = 3 ft3/hrAcetylene = 1470 BTU/cubic foot, 1 BTU = 1055 JoulesTravel speed = 2 inch/min.3 ft3/hr x 1470 BTU/ft3 x 1055 Joules/BTU x hr/60min. x min./2 inch = 38,771 Joules/inch If the weld settings are anywhere close, the TIG weld has 1/2 the heat input of OxyAcetylene. Reply:How important is the Heat Input? |
