Is it acceptable to push the filler rod into the puddle at a continual rate as opposed to dabbing it?While welding with my less tham optimal machine, i get a nice looking bead if i continully push the rod into the puddle as opposed to dabbing at 1 second intervals. No stacks, just a nice clean bead. Da bbing gives me a sloppy looking bead wth intermittent craters and black stuff in the craters.

Reply:It works but ultimately give you less control. Keep working at the dabbing, the craters are a timing issue and the black is a position issue. Someone recently posted in a header thread a great video of some stainless steel welding. Do a search. I think it will help.

Reply:I know I'm a novice, but I gotta think some of it is my machine. My arc looks and sounds nothing like his. I'm using a Lincoln ac/dc 225 hooked up to a Miller HF251D unit with pure Argon. In process of parting it out and buying a new machine. |
