Here is my '99 Hilbilt Mongoose with typical Hilbilt issues.Plastic railroad tie to hold up dump body. This trailer has been sitting for 2 or so years. That rust is not really as bad as it looks. Just heavy surface rust from the moisture in the gravel and not being moved.Added a 3'8" thick angle for redundancy. Ya know, just to be sure. Even though I highly doubt that tie could crush.Last edited by Stick-man; 02-18-2012 at 01:26 AM."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:First two pics, bushing stock broke free from the draft arm tubes.Pics 3 & 4, hydraulic cylinder removed with skid steer.Fifth wheel plate on ground. It definately wasn't from lack of grease. Actually, ALL pins slid out with just steady pressure. No hammer or anything. Originally I had planned on alot of carbon arc gouging. I'm a little disappointed I didn't get to play with my Arcair. But it was REALLY nice getting this apart in a couple hours."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:So those holes in the tube ends, where the bushing were, are going to be wallowed out something fierce right?"The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:Those ties would be terrific for putting under the ends of shipping containers.

Reply:Well, I did the repair, and now I am finally getting to post up the pics. First of all I would like to thank DSW for his input and consulting, and I would like to thank Black Wolf for the time he took to provide me with great information on how to properly do this repair. First was to grind everything clean and completely seal up the wallowed out holes.Second was to weld on the 1/4" thick reinforcement plates.Third was to plasma cut holes for the new bushing stock. Bushing stock was 3" DOM, 1/2" wallFourth was to weld in the bushings, using the new pin stock to keep everything in line. Pin stock was 1 15/16" round stock.Welding was done with my Shopmaster and S32-P, .045" ER70S-6, C25 and I forget the WFS and volts, but it was from the Miller app.And everything, the fifth wheel and cylinder, went back together perfectly. Reply:Looks like hard wire gas shielded MIG, not my first choice for structural like this but it does look good and it looks like it's burned in there pretty good, what are you using for a machine and wire?"Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400

Reply:That's a good job.  I don't see any other way it could have been done.I still cringe when I see downhill welds, but then I remember it's MIG   I'm used to stick and flux core   But I still do cringe I worked back in the day when the frameless dumps were just coming out.  Most of us felt they weren't as stable as the traditional framed dumps.  The main plus for the frameless dumps was that the trailer usually wouldn't take the truck with it when it flipped over while dumping."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
