Thinking of buying an Eastwood TIG Welder 200 Amp AC/DC. Has anyone bought one or used this welder recently? The price I am looking at is $849.99 online and want some advise on this purchase before I do.I have read the reviews and they look good however I would prefer the advise from welding forum and experienced welders. Thank You zarpman66
Reply:Read the Eastwood warranty. All transportation to and from their plant is on you. They do not have nationwide service centers like the majors, that is one reason they are so cheap. One small problem, and your savings scheme went down the tubes. One reason these are regarded as throw away machines.Last edited by shovelon; 12-01-2013 at 10:24 AM.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:There have been plenty of threads on Eastwood machines. If you can't find them using the advanced search here, I suggest using Google or some other search engine and putting in "weldingweb" and "Eastwood tig" and see what threads pop up.With any inexpensive machine, I'd look very closely at the company policy on returns/repairs. Cheap overseas imports have a history of poor quality control at the factory, no matter what the company. As mentioned many here consider them throw away units since it's not possible to get them repaired locally and many times all the importer does is ship out a new machine, often from the same "bad" batch. While not as common as it was, in the past it was not uncommon for bad machines to be replaced with another bad machine 3 and 4 times if the whole batch was bad. These inexpensive units do have a place in the market. However it's important that the buyers understand the risks they are taking when they opt to get a less expensive unit with little or no support, often from companies with questionable at best customer service records. Is that savings really worth the hassles and headache if the machine goes belly up? Only you can balance cost with other less tangible requirements and make that decision..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:WHY ???? Don't waste your money. Safe more money and buy a REAL MACHINE. MILLER, LINCOLN, or even a HOBART ! Sorry. I'm old fashion. I work too hard to gamble on one.

Reply:Although I like Eastwood as a company, I just can't get behind their welders. Knowing enough about tigs, I know that Mosfet types were used early on and not widely used anymore because of reliability. The modern inverters are IGBTs, so I suspect what Eastwood bought is scraping the bottom of the barrel to get the lowest cost offering available, hence the super low price. It does appear to have little in the way of features to confuse a newbie.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.

Reply:Thank You for the expert advise about buying the tig welder. I rather hear from real people caring about someone in order to make an honest living than salesmen that are interested in a quick buck and they are on there way. If this country and the people would show more interest in helping one another to live and make a living it would be a better place for all of us. I never realized that welders had to be ( math, metal, gas, experts, electricians and plus the skill to weld.My sincere thanks for the help.zarpman66

Reply:My everlast 200dx worked great for me for 2 years. It was 80 or 90% of the dynasty200dx that I later upgraded to, at one third the price, and it was a WAY more capable and practical machine that a Miller 180SD.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
