does anyone use the diversion 180. Wanting one for the garage ,not sure if it will be good enough for alum. though any comments are appreciated.
Reply:Personally I feel the Diversions are underpowered for alum and you give up too many options to save too little money. The 180 will do 1/8" no problem, and 3/16" if pushed, but the duty cycle on max is very low. If you are looking at getting the Diversion 180 because it will run on 110v power, don't expect to do much alum. You simply won't have the amps to do more than maybe 1/16" if you are lucky. A better choice if you want to do alum is a nice used Syncrowave if the buget is tight. Several members here have found almost new Sync 180's, 200's and even a 250 on CL for less than what a Diversion will run new. Even a new Sync 200 isn't all that much more than the Diversion is and you you get a lot more for those extra couple hundred. The Diversion will not let you stick weld, you can't adjust your pre/post flow, you can't adjust your balance on Ac and it doesn't have pulse capability. Also the torch on the Diversion is designed to be used with that machine, so adding a water cooled torch is not really an option. Lincoln and ThermalArc also have some good choices in 180-200 amp machines that have more options than the Diversions..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:watch craigslist or post on craigslist lookin for a abp 330 or airco equivalent or like he said look for a syncrowave just my opinion.I forgot how to change this.
Reply:thanks DSW ive been looking quite a while i have used the syncrowave for years on jobs. i was looking at the diversion for possible mobile stuff i was going to run it on 220 in the garage also . i thought i could get around the heat issue by mixing helium and argon. but i do like the water cooled torch on a syncrowave actually thats all ive ever used. thanks for all the good info. |
