If I'm looking for high current (400amp-600amp) slip rings where would I look? I cant seem to find anything locally. I have seen Gleason slip rings, but after getting a quote from them its very very over budget. I'm not a fan of unhooking the center lead, or having the current go through the bearings. I'm looking for something professional. I'm assuming companies like Alumareel manufacture their own slip rings? A weatherproof enclosure would be nice, but not necessary as i can make my own. Thanks for the help

Reply:It's never given me any problems since building them. Well there was the time that the lead into it got pulled a little away from the reel and the connection slid apart. Other than that it's never heated up even under heavy welding.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm

Reply:Lots of variables there. Mostly I run 100-120 most of the time. Now and then I'll bring out the 5/32 and 3/16 7018 for some heavy welding. Last year we did a lot of heavy welding though most was with dual shield some of it was with stick. There where a few times that it was run pretty constantly at 225 amps. That's where it's been pushed and so far I've never even felt it being warm to the touch.  See this post for a example of heavy welding I've done with these swivels. That one didn't take as long as some of them but it was pretty hard running for over a hour. http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?77641-This-weekends-project-Repair-box-on-another-auger&highlight=  Oh yeah I forgot about all the air arc gouging I did on those boxes as well. That was run more like 260-300 amps.Last edited by irish fixit; 12-12-2013 at 10:10 PM.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
