Outdoor Fab Table

Since I had the camera out today for some Craigslist ads I took a few of the table I have outside the shop.It's a kind of pieced together affair but the total price, not including labor, was $0.00. The frame is a section of salvaged warehouse rack. It's a 5 legged design just because of the way the scrap section was. The 1" plate was given to me by a good friend that owns a small scrap yard. Cut this section out with a Hypertherm PM45. The cutting section is rebar in a frame. Whole thing is supported on angle iron and lifts out if needed. The other end is some S4x7.7 bean spaced for clamping. I again put the 2" sch. 80 pipe in the frame to accept the attachments I made for the inside table. Also a couple of pieces of 3 1/2" square on this one. Reply:Great job on the re-use! Does that rebar really work okay for cutting?Big question:  in the 3rd pic, does the "front" edge wave in-n-out or up & down?
Reply:So far the rebar works pretty good. The plasma cuts it up some but even if I have to buy it as replacement it's cheap stuff. Most cuts I can layout to cut between bars and then no cutting into the grid. It's strong enough to support reasonable sized pieces. Also gives me reason to cuss and spit when I absent mindedly set a tool on that section and I end up picking it off the ground.I cut a couple pieces of 3/4" plywood to lay over the rebar and beam sections to throw stuff on and extend work area a little when fitting things up. The front edge of the 1" plate does have some wave in it. Although the PM 45 cut through it the 1" is pushing matters. I ground the edge close enough since I don't use it as a reference point. Reply:That would be my choice as a cutting bed like used on the cnc plasma/laser tables. Price was deciding factor on the rebar...free since it came from the pile of past jobs. It can be changed reasonably easy.CNC plasma is on the equipment wish list. Reply:The black/orange paint was made a standard when I built the first shop table by the Marketing and Graphic Arts department (wife again). So most things do get that color scheme.
