I had something set up wrong, and that was partly why I wasn't getting any coloration on my stainless welds. No good gas coverage! This is 3/32" tungsten, 1/16 308 filler, 16ga material. Knob set to about 60ams, probably never exceeded 40-45.  My heat control was not so good because it warped (as you can see), but it's a bit thinner than I should be practicing on. Was cutting some 14ga but it ate the teeth on the cheap bosch blades on my bandsaw, haha!Anyways, onto the pics. Attached ImagesHobart EZ-Tig newbie.
Reply:Try and get some thinner wire. .045 would be a better choice for 14-16 ga. as opposed to 1/16"..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Or some thicker material......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:I think some one posted up they recently got some in smaller quantities. Also someone at one time suggested using smaller mig wire and spinning two pieces together with a drill and a vise. 2lb rolls of .023 shouldn't kill you.You might also want to back the pieces up with a chill bar. That will do 2 things for you, help pull heat away from the weld to help with warpage, and 2 help shield the back of the weld so you don't have to back gas or use flux ..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:One of them I used a 1/8" thick piece of copper as backing, it lessened the warping but still warped. I'll have to see if I plan on doing much thin gauge like that where I'll need a chill bar. I know they look totally noob, but now that I can see some color that can indicate a few things for me. Thicker material tomorrow.Hobart EZ-Tig newbie.
Reply:I like to use aluminum as a heat sink/backing plate for my stainless welding. I like to have a few different sizes and shapes around. I have a few 1" square stock blocks that I like to use with outside corner welds, some 1/2"x2"x12" for butt welds, and a great big 3/8" thick 4"x4"x48" angle when I don't want to keep moving my heat sink.
Reply:Did you ask if your LWS will sell you a smaller quantity of filler? My LWS will sell you one stick of filler if thats all you needed.
Reply:If the LWS wont sell 1 stick they might be willing to 1 pound, that is what I can get at the LWS where I am at. In the event that they wont let everyone here know it might be cheaper for one of us to send a pound to you!
Reply:are you using any heatsink behind that bead?http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=68391
Reply:I wasn't, but your link gives me some good ideas, thanks!I have some 1/4" copper plate I'll try to use as heatsink.Hobart EZ-Tig newbie.
