ok questionI found a bunch of 309-16, 309-17, nicrfe-3, 347-15 and 16 welding rods that have a white powder....crusty crap on them. Question is what is the white crap?I'm sure they aren't any good but it might be fun to poodle around with them. Attached Images
Reply:Some kind of oxide? Mold? White flux someone spilled? Burn them Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
Reply:I concur with the Pugmeister.  Burn 'em for practice. I'd save some too as stainless stick rod can be useful. I bent one into a puller for my Harley alternator. Stainless is unaffected by magnets so it doesn't magnetise and attract nasties or corrode hanging on the wall.
Reply:Burn email and see how the weld turns out
Reply:There is nothing wrong with them, use them for whatever! It is the chemicals in the flux leaching out from the moisture absorbed from the air.
