I've read some about rod called Dura-Weld Gold, AKA X-Ergon #106. It's reportedly the rod from Heaven. 83K tensile strength, welds smooth as butter AC or DC, unaffected by moisture, dirt or rust, little or no spatter, etc.If it's really that good, why isn't it all over the marketplace? I can't help but wonder if something's missing here. Anybody?Last edited by Ruark; 08-21-2011 at 02:46 PM.

Reply:If you look at most of the guys who were bragging on that rod in the other thread you will see that they only show one post each. Makes me very suspicious. One of the reason that those 'designer' rods aren't commonly used is that they are proprietary (secret formulas) and don't meet AWS or ASME codes, and can't be used on code welds, which makes them useless for most commercial welding.
Reply:The rod was designed for maintenance personnel who arent really that great at welding. Most of you all are great welders and would call it a 'dummy rod'. Maintenance, farmers, beginners and road mechanics since the flux remains unaffected by the elements and it will weld right thru dirt, grease, grime. The manufacturer only sells direct, thats why you can't find it eveywhere.
