i have a pro mig 135 lincoln mig welder. im using gas and .030 wire. my problem is when your welding it will be doing good and then the wire starts melting before it touches the surface. i changed the board in it when it stopped welding and worked good for a lil while. what else can i check, it does it no matter what the settings. thanks for any help.
Reply:that's called burn back, lower your voltage or turn up your wire speed. If you are getting good penetration on whatever voltage tap your using then you need to turn your wire speed up a bit.ESAB MigMaster 275Miller Econotwin HFMiller Syncrowave 250
Reply:Could also mean you need to keep the lead straighter, no sharp bendsGive me fuel, give me fire, give me that which I desire.
Reply:a little more info on what your welding might help too, and what settings you're using. When i had my little 120v lincoln i almost never had burn back problems unless i had it set way wrong. Their very forgiving machines.ESAB MigMaster 275Miller Econotwin HFMiller Syncrowave 250
Reply:looking into it further, the wheel that feeds the wire is pulsing, and when it stops it puddles and then does good but then stops and goes. it does it on any kind of material. played withsettings and does it no matter what.
Reply:We had this happen before on a rental at work, problem was in the liner. Changed guns and it ran fine.Just a thought.
Reply:have not thought about the liner, but ill check it out, thanks
Reply:changed the liner and seems all is good, thanks for all the advice.
Reply:If you had a millermatic 135 you would not have that problem at all. Lincoln small welders are hard to work with as they are inconsistent. Also if you use flux core wire, .030 with an .035 tip you'll have better luck getting along run without down time. In addition a small amount of WD40 on the roll of wire instead of one of those cleaner lubricators will give you the max amount of liner life. I've used both the Lincoln and the Miller machines, you can keep the Lincolns.

Reply:hmmm...just a key point here...regardless of the machine, liners get worn out.  That's why manufacturers sell replacements and put replacing the liner on the maintenance schedule.  Every used welder I've ever seen from CL except for 1 had to have the liner replaced.  It's often overlooked but can cause quite a bit of frustration if they're not replaced often enough.  And just to repeat everyone elses sentiments here...do not spray oil, wd40, etc... on your wire spools.--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
