Now I have an Inverter TIG, I was going to order up some Lanthanated Tungsten. However I see there is 3 common versions in 1%, 1.5% and 2%. What are your experiences with these and which ones do you recommend and why? thanks. Currently I have a bunch of Ceriated and Thoriated....Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:I ordered the 2%, according to friends, they hold up just as good if not better than the 2% thoriated. They are the pre-ground freebies, so I can try-before-buy.Semper FiJesus may have been a Carpenter, but his dad was a Millwright" A grinder and a can of paint, will make a welder what he aint' "I've done so much, with so little, for so long, that now I can do anything with nothing!

Reply:That is who my LWS uses, they offer a re-grinding service to if you don't want to sharpen your own.Edit: You can request a certain angle and blunt tip size also if you want one.Semper FiJesus may have been a Carpenter, but his dad was a Millwright" A grinder and a can of paint, will make a welder what he aint' "I've done so much, with so little, for so long, that now I can do anything with nothing!

Reply:I've basically tried most of what is available and I've ended up using Ceriated for most of my Aluminium welding, Thoriated for Steel, Stainless and Titanium and I still use Zirconated if I want a broad soft weld in Aluminium.I was never happy with the Lanthanated (1 and 2% ) particularly on Aluminium as up in the higher AC frequency ranges the modern inverters can achieve I found they tended to form odd shaped knobs at the tip end.Others experiences may be different but my electrode choices seem to work well for my applications.Regards Andrew from Oz.
Reply:I like the 2% lanthanated. You can get them at some decent prices off ebay.
