I'm new to this site, but I have a question for all the journeymen welders out there, I want to be able to weld up to 1/4" aluminum, and a second welder to weld stainless steel, mostly .063 tubing for boats. I now have a Lincoln Precision Tig 185 and a weld pack 175 mig. I also have a lincoln spool gun so I'm leaning toward Lincoln Power mig 255, will that do it for me. Thanks
Reply:Your 185 will almost get you to 1/4", 3/16" really but close enough? It will do 1/4" in smaller pieces. It will certainly do SS .063 tubing. You don't want to use a MIG for SS on boats, it will not give you the appearance that has become expected of SS for most boats.

Reply:You might be able to preheat the aluminum, but I'll let some of the pro's offer their advice......Lincoln pro mig 180Lincoln Square Wave Tig 300/wp 20/home built water cooler Victor, Purox, Harris, O/A welding/cutting setupsVintage Craftsman drill pressVintage Craftsman/Atlas 12"x 36'' lathe7''x 12'' w/c band saw Everlast 140 st |
