Hey I was trying to weld onto my car lock club bar and it wouldn't weld. Does any one know what these are made of?  I was trying to weld regular steel to it. ThanksSent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2

Reply:I'm trying to weld to the frame, not the rod that extends. It just pitted the metal and didn't stick. The mig welder wouldn't arc on it eitherSent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2

Reply:I imagine the frame would be made from some type of alloy steel, maybe heat treated for strength.  It should be weldable though.Miller Dynasty 200 DXBuildPro TMA52238 (38" x 22")Miller MP-10 & Jackson Nexgen EQC20 Ton Press & Swag HD Press Brake
Reply:Ah the Club Got one of those things, makes me feel real good when I go to Tulsa and lock 'er down whilst I go in and eat at Furr's And I feel real good when I think about the happy tow truck drivers, who sometimes steal cars.  They won't have to put that pesky strap thru the window to hold the steering wheel.  After all.....................I got the Club  Locks that puppy right in place!  "Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Not to be the messenger of bad news, nor am I stating that I know the whole purpose of your "club"...but any real thief over 9 years old knows how to by pass a CLUB, look on youtube as I am sure they have tons of videos. takes about a milli-second. So you are wasting a lot of effort on  something that is very easy to defeat- Again I don't know if you are aware of it or not and what your complete intentions are.. Sort of like locking your front door ( a brick goes through any window) or putting a lock on a aluminum trailer ( a sawzall goes through it's wall like butter.. no real thief is deterred by the club... I once repo'd about 5 cars a day for years..no club, alarm or person kept me from any auto.. a big dog did a few times however.. BTw- the freeze method of defeat costs money. save that for pulling out dents.... why would you spend money to kill a club..

Reply:Even if the Club was made of depleted uranium, one simple cut with a serrated bread knife through the plastic steering wheel itself..... and the Club is easily removed.  The weakest link of the  "Club," is the actual steering wheel itself.  No steering wheels are made of nor contain metal within them, per federal regulations.Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member
Reply:I agree 100 percent with  the two above statements.. And since Honest people usually are not thieves..the only purpose would be to keep a 8 year old or younger from doing something they shouldn't be..Now a days it might be a 5 year old or less... Everyone should do a lot of research before spengding too much on a locking device.. Many times it has nothing to do with size, material or cost of the device..most can easily be defeated..often with a ball point pen..Last edited by razorfish19; 05-21-2012 at 03:02 PM.
Reply:I think you will find a serrated knife will not cut through a steering wheel. They do contain steel....

Reply:Originally Posted by SuperArcOkay, even If  that's the case, they can easily be cut with a pair of tin snips.  It used to be the case where the steering wheels couldn't be made of steel in order to prevent the ease of cutting through due to a collision and a person pinned behind the wheel.  I'll digress and give into what they are made of now. Either way, tIn snips, seratted bread knife or a hacksaw blade will cut through any steering wheel in under 30 seconds. If anything, it's a light steel rim shrouded by plastic. Again, it's about "beer can" strength metal if any.  I've cut several with a pair of extremely light bolt cutters and even pruning sheers.

Reply:Looking at the pic, it doesn't appear to be an OEM part from an auto maker.  I could show you an aftermarket solid chain link steering wheel that the low riders use too.Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member

Reply:I think that with the introduction of the cordless grinder to the market, theives can now cut through about any lock/ steering wheel/ door frame etc  in seconds. I have found very few things that stand in the way of my Bosch equipped with a 6 inch .045 cut off wheel. Tungsten may be the toughest, but it only lasts a few seconds longer than anything else. Reply:I think the op wanted advice on how to weld it not on how to bypass it. It seems everyone on this thread could easily get past the CLUB. Maybee he's just looking for something to do. Also, he said it just pitted or something like that but didnt really give enough info/pic. The only thing I can suggest is, is your polarity correct for the wire your using? Did you turn your gas on? Did you check the NUT behind the trigger? Just kidding. Im not trying to be a smartazz but some of us here are just  trying to weld something.BTW, dhem, did you weld yours with a MIG or TIG? It looks to good to be a FLUX core weld, at least for meI would say "the club" is some kind of alloy, pretty much a tool steel or pre-hard steel.. I've built steering wheel molds for several automotive manufactures over the years, the tools i've been involved building use a lot of material savers in the designs, and also seemed some were designed to break away upon impact..  The tools I built and been involved with building werent designed with enough room for any kind of steel insert to be used..tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
Reply:Well, I had 2 different  'clubs' on my 73 Corvette, both failed to unlock, so I ended breaking the lock/housing portion with a hammer. The material appeared to be die-cast Zinc. These are made in China, as are the new ones I looked at also. The brand is Rally.Dougspair
Reply:The purpose of the club is to make the car thief pass yours buy and look for another car.  Around here I know a lot of car thiefs and they would say they don't wast time on cars with.clubs unless they really wanted it. If it had rims , sounds etc. It may only take 30 sec to cut the steering wheel but in any crime they want to leave as fast as they can.  P.s I don't have no idea why it won't weld.

Reply:It seems like their is a trend for them to break. Even if you weld it, its gonna break at the next weakest link. I would probably use a 24" pipe wrench to snap it.  dhem, I kinda figured that was a TIG weld. Nice work

Reply:The Only person scared off by  the club would be the dumb *** who lost their key. And actually many times you can manipulate  "the bad *** Club" enough to slide it off with out  any other manipulation...My original post stated that I do not know  his complete intentions.. Just stating the fact- I would not waste a lot of time because the club is ineffective at keeping any thief at bay..If he wants to weld on it is his business. I just didn't know if he was aware of their short comings.  Weld away. about every post following the original post is correct...Gold plate the damn thing so they have something  shiny to remember their victory....
Reply:The best way to keep your vehicle moving is putting as many barriers in the way. Personally I deflate my tires to 0psi every where I park. I also remove my rear drive shaft ujoint and transfercase linkage. If I'm in a bad part of town, I'll also remove my clutch slave cylinder or starter.Or not. I have an alarm with the starter wire through a relay. That takes about 10-15 seconds to find and bypass by anyone with intent and the tiniest bit of knowledge. On my previous vehicle, I had added another in series, in the engine bay. I can't remember the name of the device, but it's a plastic bubble strip contact. Think how a remote control's button works. One side has double sticky tape. I had it mounted behind the lever to release the parking brake. That circuit also ran through the driver's side power window switch. To start my old truck, you'd have to depress the clutch fully, bend over and press the hidden button behind the e-brake release, while using your elbow to press the window down button. And turn the key! And before anyone says it, the bubble contact operated a secondary solenoid in series with the starter wire, controlled through a relay. Reply:What about a home made DENVER BOOT? I saw one in a catalog somewhere but this thread just gave me the idea to build my own. Do any of the Hot Shots have a pic of a home made denver boot?

Reply:The Majority of time the alleged criminal  doesn't want your whole broken down piece of junk auto anyways. Instead they prefer the wheels ( wheels locks are real easy to by pass) your stereo ( just yank it and $4,000 worth of the dash with it and items such as the cat converter.. Sorry but the Club will not save any of these items anyways. If they want the whole car - it is usually for a fun joyride...Just like this post is.. If they want it , they will take. Personally I have insurance - any car I have ever owned they can have..and I do not want it back after the test drive.

Reply:How much is a used catalytic worth and what xactly is in it that the thiefs are after? The recycler in my town takes a picture of your I.D. then runs it thru another device(?) and they have an electronic finger print device all while being on camera. It was easier to cash the check than to go thru the recycler. They said it was all because of thiefs. They also had sign saying they dont xcept keggers for scrap to reduce keg theft.
Reply:Anywhere from $20 to $100 bucks normally to a meth/crack head who usually takes them.. they reclaim platinum from them.  Why would  you get caught with a whole car you can't get rid of, when you snatch a quick 100 here and there?  Cars do get stolen , but not very often for the chop shop tv /movie deal.  Now that precious metals have went up so high, they may be worth a lot more.. Anyone with a rollback can take any car. club, no club...mad owner standing there or not..
