I am a self taught shade tree welder ( scarey isn't it? ) I am looking into getting a Tig setup, I am looking at either a Diversion 180 or a Dynasty 200DX. I know that they are miles apart in features and price but I have never been one to buy-upgrade-buy-upgrade ect.. The Diversion is pretty much plug and play, Dynasty has loads of features and that's the question. How hard would it be to learn to use the Dynasty with all it's bells and whistles. Reply:Hey missfire,You would be much better off getting the 200DX & simply reading the manual & getting an understanding of all the features & what each does. Reading, studying, & applying each parameter on practice pieces will yield "on-hand" results that will make you understand what each change does. Basically, you are controlling an arc to get optimum results on a material you want to weld. Each type/grade of material has conditions that you must find by varying the controls of heat/gas/stickout distance/distance to work/frequency(if applicable) parameters. Reply:My take is that if you already know how to tig, then you know what a decent weld would look like. If not, you will not know how to navigate the parameters on a Dynasty. 35 years ago when I learned how to tig, the machines were as simple or simpler than a Diversion. It was either DC for steel, or AC for alum, that's it. Pretty much figured out for you.Now you have the Dynasty. The machine comes preprogrammed with default settings for preflow, postflow, AC balance, DCEN and DCEP times and arc values, frequency, and arc profiles. They are easily changed by pushing the buttons, and if you are not familiar with what you are doing or what you need, you are stuck. The only thing you can do is a system reset back to default. The Diversion on the other hand is like you say, plug and play. I know the seasoned pros here always recommend to buy more than you need, but you REALLY need to learn to tig first. Then when you are familiar with a quality weld, you can venture into the darkside. I have and will continue to buy Dynasty welders. But I spent a year learning how to maximize the potentional of mine, and I know what I am doing.I think you will be more than jazzed with a Diversion, popping out nice welds in a very short amount of time, and at half the cost. Then when you have mastered it, teach someone and sell it to them. Use the money to purchase a Dynasty.I put one in the local high school here. The instructor picked up aluminum right away, and teaches her kids  to tig on their robotics projects. The difficult stuff the kids tack and I finish it off. How easy is that.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:I would get the dynasty and just leave the settings on default till you get good at TIG.   AC balance and frequency are nice features to have once you get the hang of itTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:I say go ahead and get the Dynasty if you can afford it. I owned one of the Dynasty 200dx machines and I loved it. But I am a bells and whistles kinda guy anyway.

Reply:Don't see why you guys are getting all into the cost, The OP made no mention of cost being an issue.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:I thank you guys for your input, I am now leaning about 80% to the Dynasty 200DX, like on post said I can use it on the default settings and learn the other bells and whistles along the way. Thanks again.Dan Miller 252 Mig w/Spool GunMiller Dynasty 350 TigMiller 225 AC-DC StickMiller Spectrum 875 PlasmaOxy/Acet.
