I thought of selling it, but realized it isn't worth all that much (a member or two pointed it out). http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=102201I was thinking of using it on a utility trailer. Any other ideas? Maybe something I could build and sell?

Reply:A trailer would be very far down my list of suggestions unless you want something to tow behind your lawn tractor to pick up sticks or haul fire wood on the property. Welding table, or cart, OA cart, saw horses, pipe jacks, shelving, material storage racks would all top my list. A carrier to go in the hitch of your truck to haul coolers and junk or a ladder rack to haul material would come in near the top as well. I'm sure if I think a bit I can come up with a dozen other good projects..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:I'm using 2x2x1/4" angle to build stair stringers. Like these in the first picture. Eventually they will have a 2.5x2.5x1/4 angle welded underneath like the second picture for added strength and stability. This will become a seperate thread on here later, as I get farther into this project. I have a good stack of this grating I got for free, so these new stairs will have it for treads just like this second pic, but you could use wood if that's what you have available. I paid $45 for each 20' piece of 2x2x1/4 angle unprimed, wish I could find some locally, primed for $25 each. I'll be cleaning and priming some more pieces of this today as well as the 2.5x2.5x 1/4, which I got for $59.50 each. Attached ImagesLast edited by Bistineau; 03-24-2012 at 12:12 PM.
Reply:Perhaps you'll get your answer by elimination of what not to try....As I young man I welded 4 sets of scaffolding out of angle. Why is that bad? I didn't see it till I stacked 3 up and tried to climb up.One word: torsion! The things twisted like a belly dancer and I backed down slowly. That's why "they" use tubing.I did make metal storage racks out of angle scraps.Have fun with your steel :-)Miller Syncrowave 180SDLincoln WeldPak 100 with gasHandheld Milwaukee BandsawO/A Cutting Torch

Reply:Sounds like a good use to me, with that much you could build two or one REAL BIG one. One welding table and two saw horses the same height as the table is probably best idea.
Reply:I still haven't touched it, but I am leaning towards a smallish utility trailer. Was thinking of using 3-4" channel for the tongue and running it all the way back to the axle and mount axle to channel, then build deck with the angle on top of channel. Don't worry. I have 3 trailers I have built out on the road, the oldest is 5 years old now.
