Wanted to try and do a full penetration weld with my Tig. I primarly use my tig for sheet metal and this is the first time trying this so be easy on me.My timing is not that great and where I stop for my tie In's there was a little crack at the end. I don't think i protected it long enough with the gas. I'm not sure what to look for. I took some close ups if you see anything please let me know. I love feedback that helps me improve.Going to watch some football I will fill in later. Might be next weekend I have a busy week ahead of me.
Reply:Looks a little cold to me.What thickness of metal? What parameters did you use?  Amps, etc.
Reply:1/4'' and was running 128 amps. I was worried it was to hot. It's digging pretty good but like I said this is my first time with this thick of material. So I don't know and is why I put it out there. Thanks for the feedback.
Reply:yep for 1/4 inch its cold a good average is 1amp for every .001 (.250 =1/4"i would go 220-250idealarc 250/250 ac-dc tigidealarc 250/250 ac-dc tig #2 used for sticklincoln sp100hh125dual arbor grinder polisher30 yrs of hand tools52 pitch blocks 6p-26prake gauge -pitch gaugeG&D prop repair 918-207-6938Hulbert,okla 74441

Reply:he is not trying to one pass it..so he does not need 250 amps..with a 1/4 gap hes trying to heat the backyard...try a smaller gap, put in a root, and put some stringers side by side..i guess that v groove is 3/4" wide at the top...are you getting a puddle  withina second or two of starting the arc?
Reply:Yea I was planning like 6 passes on the weld joint and then torch off the backing plate.Yea the puddle with in  second or two.
