Multi use dolly

Almost finished up with this fully adjustable frame dolly, for lack of better words.  It's made of 2x2 rails with 2 1/4" sliders and everything is fully adjustable.  The smallest it will be is approx. 3 feet and will go as wide as 5 feet by 10ft long max.  So far the intended use is for a customers Land Rover I'm doing a frame off restoration on and need to be able to move the frame and engine around on.     I can move all of the adjustable verticle posts anywhere on the frame, or make new fixtures that will slide into the uprights.       This idea just came to me one day since I have never seen one before.  Hope this elightens someone to make one in the future.     -Greg Attached Images---No good deed goes unpunished---
Reply:Very cool.  I might be able to answer my own question if I stared at the pictures really intently, but it's hard to tell.  In the bottom picture, is that the frame's most disassembled form?  I like the modular approach and the adjustability, I'm just wondering how easily it could be taken apart and stored.Thanks for sharing.
Reply:I can definitely see the value in that, cool build. But now I wanna see pics of some of the projects that come off it.If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:I like it a lot!!!Could be very handy....   if I had more room to store stuff.What about centering the casters under the frame ends or adding an additional caster in the middle of the span length wise? But than again, if the casters are bolted on, you could just add more when the need arises.Not to critize your choice of hardware, but why does everybody seem to always use grade 8 hardware when other grades would do the job just fine and sometimes it would be more appropriate for the load the part is subjected to.Last edited by patkenbar; 07-02-2012 at 12:39 AM.

Reply:For the uprights, the bottoms are cutoff so you can just unbolt them and move them anywhere you need.  I use grade 8's pretty much on everything except where their are high loads then I order fasteners from Coast Fab. since grade 8's are readily available to me.     As for the wheels, take two bolts out and slide them back and forth.  I'm not sure if I'll need center ones as of yet.  I'll know later this week when I pick up the chassis, and I'll take some pictures.     This thing comes apart quite easily, just unbolt several bolts on the cross braces, and then hang the whole thing on a rack, similar to a pipe rack.     Hope this helps clarify some things for you guys.  thanks for the great comments.                     -Greg---No good deed goes unpunished---
Reply:Now there's a schweetie. Do you have any fotos of the dolly in use? Looks versatile as all heck. Here in the Big Smoke we have our street signs mounted to material that looks exactly the same and is galvanized, heavy duty, I see the stuff at the steel store occasionally. Is this the same material or did you get the material and drill all the holes yourself? Nice-a-job.
