our shop has an old SKB stick welder and a Miller 251. that are just fine for the work that we do. But now we want to do an old car restoration and we think that the Miller is too much machine for the .023 wire that we are using on these off shore replacement body panels that we are trying to spot weld back on'We are looking at a Hobart Handler 190 as a better machine for the job. Any thoughts or opinions would be welcome!
Reply:Should be able to turn the machine down low enough to run the .023". It is nice to have a machine dedicated to the small wire though, so you don't have to change everything over for different sizes.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
Reply:Drive rolls and contact tips are a lot cheaper than a new machine.......251 will weld sheet metal just fine.
Reply:I agree with VWguy3 that 251 is as capable as any of working thin sheet. Just cause it reads 150 doesn't mean you have to drive it that hard GOD, GUNS,& GUTS Made America Free
