Getting a inconsistent "spatter" trail (no flow) when I'm practicing with my MIG (Hobart 210). Just using flux core with no gas to practice so I'm wondering if this could be one problem. Right now I'm just looking to lay lines on a chunk of metal to practice but I can't seem to get any flow except globular spatter. Running at normal voltage, set at 2/25 as recommended, polarity is correct, metal clean (no rust). It's possible my tip angle wasn't "pulling or "pushing" weld so maybe that's an issue? Any feedback is appreciated

Reply:Is the polarity set correctly for FC wire?It would help if we had all the info. Are you running 110v or 220v on that unit? What size wire? How thick is the material? Picts would also help greatly.It's not uncommon for newer welders to go way too fast when starting out, and hold the gun way to far away from the material. Try slowing down, dragging the bead and keeping the gun within 3/8" of the material and see if this helps if your polarity is correct..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:DSW, I think I mentioned Polarity being correct (I checked) and normal (110) voltage. Not going too fast, running .30 wire. I will post embarrassing pics later soon LOL. I will try pulling the weld as well…. I think my distance was spot on. I'm not looking for bonding… just wanna draw a straight line on steel first then move on to shapes Also could material temp cause this?, I kinda ruled it out cause it's voltage based instant heat but I could be wrong. Thank you.
Reply:Most T-11 wires I run between 3/8, and 1/2-inch stick out. Most T-8 wires 1/2 to 3/4-inch stick out. What wire are you running? Here is some .045 NR-212 run with a 48-year old engine drive. Reply:How thick is the metal? it sounds like you might be to low on the voltage or to much wire speed,also a "chunk" of steel maybe to thick for the 110 side so get some steel about an 1/8 thick and try that.Lincoln pro core 125 14''chop saw7 inch grinder,2-4.5 inch grinders,electric die grinder.Half inch drillAnd alot of hand tools
