Ok guys here's a question. I am building my second welding skid. It's 46" wide by 76" long. It is made out of 2 x 8" Channel. I have a weatherguard packrat box in the middle with the skid built around and over it (to hold my mig wire, sticks, air tools, etc.). My air compressor goes on the front left side (looking from the back of skid) and my Trailblazer 302 is in the front right side. In front of all of this is my rack for the gas cylinders (Argon, CO2, Oxygen, Acetylene). The back of the skid consist of hose reels to the left side which are the following: 1/2" x 50' air, 50' twin 1/4" torch hose, 50' x 1/4" twin inert gas (to supply argon to my tig torch and the other line with 75/15/10 for my suitcase 8rc to weld mig), 50' 12/3 electrical, and finally a twin reel of 50' for each the ground clamp and electrode. The right back side of the skid contains a toolbox to house my two 8rc suitcases, guns, cable, etc. The question I have is the following: I am wanting to make a plate on top of the toolbox that will house my four gas regulators so I do not have to climb to the front of the truck to mess with the regulators. I am wanting to know where to get high pressure hose from the cylinder to the regulator?? Any ideas or thoughts on this guys? Since this is my second skid I have learned from my last one on what to improve. I was just curious to see your input on where to get that hose. Oh and this is on a service truck body so that's why I don't want to have to climb in and out.
Reply:I want to write something, but what works in point "A" won't work in point "B"...Best advice?  When you build your skid, make the valve locations easily accesible so that you can affix your regulator on the jobsite...or keep everything out of sight...  Regardless, know the regulations in your area.  Most of the welding trucks up north carry two oxy bottles horizontal and two acetylene bottles vertical.  The bottles in use are hooked up to regulators while the ones not in use are capped;  all bottles are secured and turned off when not in use.  1 acetylene will last the same as two Oxy with normal cutting usage, also something worth noting...Last edited by mb_welder; 07-13-2012 at 07:35 AM.
Reply:Yea i understand where you are coming from. Do you think i should not remote mount them then? I mean i can still get up there somewhat easy i just do not have a lot of options since it is a service truck body. Is there anything wrong with mounting them back on a plate? In your opinion and expertise.
Reply:Personally?  I would keep the pressure regulator on the bottle.  If you are still in the design phase, I would make the bottles easily removable yet secure so they won't bugger off when you don't want them too as well as have the regulators easily accesible when you need to turn them on.Last edited by mb_welder; 07-13-2012 at 07:45 AM.
Reply:Ok. Thank you. I definitely know it would be easier that way. I appreciate your opinion.
