Can anyone tell me more about Certainium 701 all-position AC/DC electrodes? A friend gave me a few pounds of 1/8" rods. A web search suggests that they are designed for burning through rust, yield a flat bead.I'd like to hear from folks that have used them. Am I better off sticking with 6011, 7014 and 7018 or will these offer something that my standard set of rods don't?Hobart LX235Victor 250 Oxy-Acetylene Rig (welding and cutting)Bobcat 773F-350, 1999, 4x4, 16' 10K# trailerOutdoor Wood Burner - 10 cords/year
Reply:I have some of them as well. They seem to most resemble a 7014 in operation, but they are marketed as "maintenance and repair" rods and they do not have an AWS type number. As long as you're not working to code, they should be OK wherever you'd use a 6013 or 7014.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:The thing that got my attention was that they are intended to burn through rust - seems like magic to me since I end up repairing tractor implements that have more rust than paint.Hobart LX235Victor 250 Oxy-Acetylene Rig (welding and cutting)Bobcat 773F-350, 1999, 4x4, 16' 10K# trailerOutdoor Wood Burner - 10 cords/year
Reply:It take some getting used to, but will burn through alot. I have found that you need to keep the bead tight, otherwise you hit both sides but have a void in the center.Bruce DeLaetHeavy Equipment Mechanic and Welder1948 SA-200 short hood1949 LincWelder 1801963 SA-200 red faceMiller S-32-P
Reply:6013s have that tendency, too. Those proprietary M&R rods are all marketed as having "magical" properties. Really, though, if you have to burn through rust, 6010 and 6011 are the rods of choice.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:I have used a fair bit of Certanium 702 rod. It is similar to the 701 rod. These rods are very user friendly and easy to use. Downfall of them is the cost per lb.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720 |
