I am going to build a spit, but I am looking for some ideas, plans,or photos.
Reply:We made one several years ago for about 125# pig. I think I remember we used 1" rod, which seemed heavy enough, but we did not think about the heat making it sag after a few hours. So factor in the heat when you are engineering this.In the end, the pig was great, but took about 12+ hours over a wood fire.Good luck, have fun, post pictures.Burt _____________________Miller Syncrowave 250Millermatic 211Miller 375 Plasma Cutter Hobart Handler 12010FtDrillBit.com

Reply:Here's my setup on another forum: http://www.everlastgenerators.com/fo...li-Huli-Setup) See posts #1 and #14. I have pics for a different way to hold the pig on the spit if you don't want to truss it and use prongs. I will try and post thoes later.

Reply:This one is kind of humorous but it worked. I was commission to fabricate a "Turkey Bike" for the Food Network show Ham on the Street. It was the Thanksgiving addition. It was filmed in Plymouth Mass. I was even on the show, not the bike peddler either. George Duran still does other Food Network shows. Here is a link to the build and such.http://www.tjsperformance.com/hamonstreet.htmwww.tjsperformance.comDynasty 300 DXHTP 240HTP Microcut 380Hyperthem 85JD2 Hyd Bender and HF Hyd Ring Roller all in one =(Frankenbender)Bpt. Reply:Gordon your setup is awesome. I would like to make one like yours someday that is lifted off the ground so my yard doesn't have a burnt spot in it all the time. What gauge SS sheet metal were you using and what was the gauge for the fire boxes? Do you have any additional pics?
Reply:Hi, NRM, Fire boxes are only 2mm thick but suffered no distortion whatsoever,The mesh on the fire boxes is stainless steel, When both front and rear boxes are fitted there is a gap of about 12" in the centre to allow the fat to drip into the catch bucket underneath and not onto the fire,The shiny stainless hood is made from the cladding from one of my sons road tankers, Don't know what grade it is but it is very soft and easy to work and only 0.6mm / 0.025" thick,Don,t have any more pic's at the moment,Didn't have any plans, just made it up as I went along.Ant more questions just ask.
