My local store of a national hardware and industrial supplier has on several occasions tacked on from $5 to $15 dollars to an invoice for shipping and handling. This is on stock items that I pick up in store. NOT on special orders. I called them on it and sent an email to the home office, I was assured this was a computer glitch and it would be taken care of. Well they just faxed me an open invoice with the same malarky. An Invoice I already paid when I picked up at the store. Does anyone else have this problem? Are they honestly making a mistake or are they padding the bottom line and hope no one catches it?Last edited by CarlH; 02-17-2014 at 10:26 AM.Reason: clarification

Reply:If its in stock and you are being charged a shipping/handling fee and cant get the issue corrected, I believe I would find someone else to do bussiness with if possible. And I would also let them know that I was taking my bussiness elsewhere and the reason why.A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter Victor O/A
Reply:Starts with Fas-----. Its just one more hassle. Like I told the salesman this morning, (who seems to be a good guy), Here I have wasted another 30 minutes correcting someone elses mistake over $5.04 (this time). I would think a big outfit like this would have computer geniouses on staff at the home office to iron this stuff out, if they care at all.
Reply:I had the same issue picked up cutting fluid $50 plus $8 shipping and handling on in stock pick up. From the same chain as you implied. M&R JohnsonMiller 180SDLincoln weld pak 180Hobart 250ciMill Lathe

Reply:Like Praxair's and Liquid Air's "Fuel Surcharge" on anything you buy from them in this area.
Reply:Or the "fuel surcharge" that is added to taxable items? Paying tax on a surcharge?WTHScam.Tim Beeker.
Reply:I work part time at fastenal and that shipping fee stuff drives me nuts. If it's an item that is in stock and was not special ordered our store won't charge fees. The computer likes to add them and we have to catch it and remove the fees. I also don't understand how they do their pricing. It's crazy high on some things.Miller Dynasty 200DXMillermatic 211 AutosetESAB PCM 875 plasma

Reply:I buy from Fastenal when it's something I can't find on the shelf, or in the bin, at any other supplier. Most recently some special load bearing eye bolts.I paid shipping from one of their locations somewhere in the Midwest. It was about $12. And I didn't kick about it. It is what it is I guess. Same with some truck parts that are in a multi state system, but 2 states removed...........you gotta pay shipping. But I've never paid shipping on something that's actually at the location I picked it up from.....sounds like they have a problem."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:paying shipping for something that's actually on the store shelf is some bogus bs! next the'll be charging you extra for the dam box or a change surcharge if you don't pay exact money?! unless it was life or death they wouldn't get any more business from me.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:I haven't had that issue with my local Fastenal. I don't know if the charges showed up but were removed or not but I've not actually been charged for shipping - even on items I ordered and picked up in the store.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Our local Fastenal seems OK. They busted up a bag of an odd sized bolt and sold my son a couple that he needed. That was nice. Probably got charged for stuff that needed to be shipped in. But any charges should be clearly stated ahead of time."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder

Reply:truth be told, the employees at my local store are good to work with, but when I bring up questions about stuff like this, nobody has an answer. I am going to try another outfit in town and see how it goes.
Reply:I wont shop at Fastenal. Way to damn expensive and NOTHING has a price on it. Felt fricking retarted asking a dude how much something was 10 times and the reply is: " i think its about $?.??, I can look it up for you" Waste of my time. Guy working there is a really nice guy so no fault of his. I think Fastnal is marketed towards actual companies who will just order what they need on there charge accounts and not care what there being charged cause its a business expense and a tax deduction at the end of the year anyways.HH140---------------------------https://www.facebook.com/brandon.pike.9

Reply:It's a moneymaker. Charge everyone shipping fees, and if only half the people complain and make you remove it, well, you are quite a bit of money ahead, aren't you?
Reply:Lots of places surcharge in the shipping including AirGas.I don't understand it either, they should take the whole load on the truck, divide by a predetermined number and adjust their prices on everything that came in on a truck that day.If they are worried about daily trucking costs. How does NAPA, PEPBOYS and AUTOZONE do it?They get trucks in every day. |
