any reason I couldnt rig up a simple wire feeder to my dynasty 200 ?  I only need something simple like a home depot lincoln 180 as far as application.  Occasional light duty use.    Those simple lincolns just have wire feed speed and current..... seems like the feeder could stand alone electricly and the power supply could stand alone also (never the twain sould meet - electricly speaking...)Is there a simple basic wire feeder type that might work well if this is an OK idea ?(dont want to spend 1200$ on a wire welder I might use twice a year ...... )Tim
Reply:Not going to work. The Dynasty is CC. Wire feed processes are CV. You might be able to hook up a VS type feeder to it, but I doubt you will be happy with the results.CC machines don't run typical short arc mig very well at all. The feeder simply can not adjust fast enough to make this work well. Crank up the amps and you can run large wire FC in spray OK, but I'm not sure the Dynasty 200 will like that much. It's also not what most people think of when they think about "mig". Spray is also a PITA to run out of position. Also by the time you buy even a good use VS feeder, you could probably have bought a nice used 180 amp class dedicated mig and had a better machine for what you want to do.This issues has been covered many times in the past..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:Yes I knew dynasty was cc - but didnt know mig was cv.   Well - what you said was JUST what I needed to know !     I will look for a small used Mig like a weldpack 180 or an ironman 210 .Thanks for the help !Tim
Reply:I added a wirefeed to my dynasty, but not in the conventional sense. what I did was I bought a cheap $89 harbor frieght flux core mig welder just to use the feeder motor and drive and spool mount, also used the trigger and the wire liner from the HF machine, then I used a speed control from a variable speed cordless drill and I also use a power supply that can vary the voltage so I can dial in a workable wire speed between the voltage adjust and the variable speed adjust. I then feed this wire in front of the tig cup similar to those $2k tip tig wire feeders. I even use a tip from an actual tip tig feeder setup. it works really good once it's dialed in. tungsten still creating the weld puddle but the wire feeds into the puddle at a rate that you could never do by hand. once it goes it just runs like a sewing machine, fast fast and consistant too. I can tig a seem about as fast as a mig with this thing once it's all dialed in. it's wild how fast this thing can be run. of course it requires a higher amperage than conventional hand feed because of the speed and the torch does get hot fast too, especially on aluminum, a water cooler would def be a good idea with a tig wire feed just because of the speed and how long you can straight run with it. with aluminum at these speeds I can hit the limit of 200A pretty easily, again because of the speed, needs more amps the faster you go. the contraption I built is probably not for the pro who welds all day I guess, but for a hobbiest who wants to play this thing is very cool and I did amaze myself with how well it does actually work. I started with a cheapo feed just for proof of concept but it works well enough that if this feeder ever dies I'll get a better wire feed motor/roller assy and work on developing even better control circuit but the damn thing works really great as-is tbh. if your interested I'll put some more details and a few shots of the setup I built.miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
