Reply:Your fit & finish on this 1 is fabulous!! Keep @ it ,u may have found ur niche!
Reply:Nice job.The only "issue" I have with some of these you have done, is that with letters with parts that sit right on the plate like the "L" here, is that the bottom part gets lost in the stand. It's especially noticeable to me in this one because the stand and letters are both black. I don't yet have a "good" solution to suggest. Painting the stand and letters different colors would work, but I'm not sure that's the right solution. Putting the letters up on some sort of "stand" above the base might work, the key would be to make the base strong enough but light enough so that it's not as noticeable, but still separates the letters from your base. I'm thinking out loud, so maybe some one else has a suggestion that might help you improve these. You definitely are improving with each one you do and are doing an excellent job..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Thanks DSW..... I have noticed the L's and E's issue too and haven't figured out how to best deal with it......Maybe painting the letters and base different colors will be the next thing I try........Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:.Maybe painting the letters and base different colors will be the next thing I try........[/QUOTE] How about laying two pieces of flat stock on edge on top of your base plate. If base is 1/4 x2set two maybe 1x 1/8 flat stock on edge cut to the length of the name and tack letters to the edges of uprights ?  It would be like train track rails.    Nice job ! I agree this one is awesome !  Like the clock ! What thickness are you working with ?
Reply:I like that idea....... The mono rail underneath...... Great idea!I'm using 3/16 th sheet cut to size and schedule 40 pipe cut to size. These are 2" deep and this one sits about 3" tall.Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:If that idea doesn't work, I was thinking maybe 1/2" square tube or solid under the letters. A bit more weld area than 1/4" and  probably a bit easier to hold everything in place while you tack it up. I'd probably run 2 extra pieces, one on each edge, as "spacers" so the letters stay even all the way across. Then after you weld each letter you could remove the spacers and just leave the center one. A thin sheet of poster board under the spacers would give you a bit of "play" to help get them out  after welding. As far as painting the base a 2nd color, paint the main color 1st, then if you pour the paint in a pan and dip the unit, you can get a nice even line of paint the height you want  for the base with little to no effort.  Just set the pan on a level surface and fill to the height you want the paint to go to. Set the base right on the bottom of the pan and walla, a nice even line. You would also probably set the clock up the same height if you want to go that route. Then just set the piece on a few nails or something level and let drip dry..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear.
