I just picked up a L-TEC prest-o-mig 130 the other day and have a couple of concerns.  It was set up for fluxcore wire, but I want to run gas.  I have a 125CFM bottle I use with my SP170T, and purchased a Y splitter so I can run both welders off of one tank.  My first question involves the gas hose.  The end going to the splitter would require a male threaded hose, but the end going into the welder is a barbed nipple.  Can I purchase a hose with two threaded ends and cut one while using a clamp to avoid it leaking?  I know it may seem like a dumb question, but I don't want to spend the money on that type of hose and come to find out I need a specific style due to sealing issues.  The last pic shows the type of hose I'm talking about. Also, the wire spool holder dosn't seem that it will accept a larger spool due to the diameter of the shaft.  It doesn't have any adapter inside to accept a larger type spool either.  Can you purchase adapters?  I forgot to snap a pic of the inside, but I hope you catch my drift. Reply:As long as the ID of the hose matches to OD of the barbed fitting you should be OK. Just check the seal with some soap solution. As far as the adapter for a spool, I can't say if one is available for that machine, but I can't see why one couldn't be fabbed up. Access to a lathe would be a big help, but I'm sure with some tube the right size and a plate with a center hole you could make something work with a bit of thought..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I would not bother using the Y. Instead I would set up the welders each with a quick disconnect coupler, the same type used for compressed air should work fine. Male plugs on the welders and a female coupler on the end of the gas hose. On the welder with the barb, maybe a short piece of hose and then the male plug. I have this set up on my portable tig welder and it's very convenient.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools

Reply:For simplicity's sake I would go for a quick disconnect coupler.  toss that y thing.  Sounds like you have to reinvent the wheel.  Look here, one coupler on the bottle and nipples on the machines.  You need to change machines, simply plug the bottle into the one you need.  One hose.   Pffft, click.  You are done.  I use 'big' 3/8 automotive style coupler/nipples on mine.  You can get them at lowes in a set.Last edited by 3 weelin geezer; 02-05-2012 at 09:15 PM.
Reply:Don't forget to change the wires so that you reverse the polarity.  Gas works opposite of flux.
