Long cuff welding gloves?

I am going to buy a pair of long cuff welding gloves.My current pair was bought about 22 years ago at a flea market booth.Have no idea what the brand was but I want another pair with the long cuffs, all the way to my elbows.I just decided to post here as I figure the replies will give me much to consider.Do you guys have a favorite brand or merchant?  Online store?

Reply:I tried the Cayman long cuff gloves and they work well for the high temp tig work I do. They don't last long in wet environments however. Reply:Got a pair of 18" Black Stallion brand stick gloves at one of our area welding supply houses.  This particular store was the only store of the ones I phoned that had ANY long cuff gloves. The clincher for the sale was that their location was just a short jag off of my normal route driving to my job.Used them yesterday and they seem alright.  Size Large, but a little snug on my hand (only size in stock) but they might get looser with time, like a pair of shoes.  If these turn out less than satisfactory, I may try a pair of Miller 21" cuffs from Cyberweld.Nobody I phoned around here even had any Caiman brand stuff, but that is a nice looking glove.I expect that July or August will not make much difference for me.  My job is heavy truck/forklift mechanic and welding is only one facet of my job.  When I am welding (or OA cutting), it usually means anywhere from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours.  And when it is one of the couple hour jobs, it's not all continuous weld time.  If I was was welding all day long I would have to consider heat gain and choose my apparel accordingly.  Heck, with the short weld times I see, I figure I'm cooler covering up my arms AGAINST heat gain than trying for maximum air exposure.Thanks.

Reply:Well, I always tried to stick them back into a plastic bag and put them in my toolbox when not in use.I also tried to be careful not to use them for any other tasks except welding and OA cutting, I always used other gloves for grunt work.But the biggest reason may be that I don't weld nearly as much as most other people here who are actually weldors by job title.And I could have justified buying a new pair maybe 5 years ago when the first hole appeared.Last week I pulled them on and saw an entire finger poking through, so it was time to pony up for a new pair.

Reply:I got a pair of steiner gloves that cover my whole arm. they work good, have had them for about 2 years now. There a bit cumbersome but protect you very well. I have a pair of cheap hobart china gloves that I got free when I ordered my HH140 that still work good even with a shriveld finger from geting it to hot welding. I do want to try one of those sets of caimen gloves too. Hard to find gloves my size since most are large and xl and I need a medium so I mostly deal with what I can get which is fine till I need to grab something then its frustrating.
