Welded a bung to a turbo pipe for my good friend's drag truck... it is a 6.7l cummins that puts down some SERIOUS power... it is going to have to hold at 100PSI of boost. We will be down at diesel nationals in englishtown nj this weekend and will see how it does!Miller Dynasty 300 DXMiller CST280Miller Maxstar 150 STH

Reply:the truck regularly hits 80 (eighty psi) and has gone as high as 100 (one hundred psi) -- It is ridiculous. Its a competetion truck... the motor and trans are fully built... i think the top turbo is 70mm but i know the bottom is 90mm... It goes to events in an enclosed trailer and is rarely driven on the street (it is street legal).EDIT: Ill see if i can get a video of it spooling tomorrow if you guys want.Last edited by Silverado; 09-12-2012 at 12:45 AM.Miller Dynasty 300 DXMiller CST280Miller Maxstar 150 STH
Reply:... the motor and trans are fully built... So is the motor and trans in my corolla.
Reply:100psi isn't crazy for a high power diesel.
Reply:I believe it.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:100PSI isn't anywhere near crazy for a competition diesel engine. There are open driveline pulling trucks that run 100PSI PER CHARGER.
Reply:They are serious, 10 psi is nothing, a stock diesel pickup puts out more than that.

Reply:I probably would have used 309. It looks like you used a mild filler rod. I'm betting the bung was SS and the tube as mild

Reply:My all stock 7.3 hits 20psi.I have built plumbing for gas cars that see 40psi. I test much of my plumbing to 100psi. Would not be surprised to see a diesel gauge show 100psi. Either way there isn't much to worry about welding just a bung in the pipe. The silicone will blow way way before the pipe or bung will fail.
Reply:That's some serious compression, I had no idea they went that high. Thanks for the pics and education. If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.

I have two boost guages because one max's itself out. But let me tell you, at 100psi and over things blow even on built trucks. You seriously have to monitor your guages.
Reply:Crazy Carl's supercharged/turbo cummins makes 8 lbs on idle. Pretty cool set up. Anything over 70 lbs is nothing short of violent and more fun then one man should be allowed.

Reply:SilveradoPlease ask your client for the compression ratio;and, at 100 psi boost what is the Oxygen % gain over ambient draw.Opus
Reply:Tig - I don't particularly like industrial injection either they were just one of the first companies to pop in my head. I don't know how much if any IDI gear is in that truck...Opus - I will ask...This is a pic of the truck:Miller Dynasty 300 DXMiller CST280Miller Maxstar 150 STH

Reply:Have seen this thing perform in my travels, video dosent really dosent do it justice. lol just a insight for those who dont think diesel engines make power. This is raw diesel, no cetane boost.
Reply:Originally Posted by CarterKraftthe static compression is usually very low on a comp motor. the boost pressure is very high.allot of race motors won't start without some help and smoke at idle.nice job on the bung though.
Reply:Looks good bro. Like they said above, i would've used an ss rod in there. Bu it looks lime its getti g powdercoated, so who cares.
Reply:Amazing what boost can do, If you think about it for every 15psi of boost you add you basically double the HP from 0psi (an NA motor) I have seen triple turbo setups that push 150psi in pulling motors. A gas motor would probably grenade pretty quick at anywhere near those levels. Maybe a top fueler block could be built to take it, but a production block is not even in the ballpark.
Reply:I love pulling in to parking lots when a cruise night is going on with my hoopty. First question I always get "Does it smoke and how much boost" no it doesn't smoke that much and makes plenty of boost now go away is usually my answer. Then some car genius will tell me there is no possible way it could make over 25 lbs.Last edited by Letzgoracin301; 09-14-2012 at 01:13 PM.
Reply:silverado: Sorry my post came off douche-bag-ish. I just don't care for Industrial Injection, I think they are a joke....The diesel world is completely different than gas motors. I've built kits that will produce over 120 psi. the difference in fabrication is less boots, more hard lines, and bolt together flanges to replace those boots. As far as the dragster it only makes about 1000 HP to go that time and MPH. Weight is huge in 1/4 mile times.Miller Dynasty 200Millermatic 211Instagram?.... find me @ WELD_MEDIC
