I have a little Maxstar 150. One of the things I have loved about this tiny inverter is how portable it is, not just in size and weight but the fact I weld 1/8" mild steel off a 110vlt 15amp circuit. It generally doesn't blow a 15amp breaker till around 100amps for a few minutes. How would it run off 5500watt gen? Is there much risk to an inverter welder when plugged into a gen? The gen is a rental, not to be an *** but I'm not too worried about it.
Reply:I ran my maxstar 150 off of my bobcat 250. I had 300 ft of 12 gauge, 120v extension cord plugged into one of the 120v outlets on the machine. I was well below the 100 amp mark on the dial of the maxstar, but that little booger sure did get me out of a jam! I eventually made a pig tail -a 220v male with 120v female. the maxstar can't tell the difference. that way you can get enough juice to the maxstar and not worry out blowing fuses. Good luck !
Reply:Should work no problem. I do that too, but I use 220 so it has plenty of power. Most generators have 220.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
