Ok, first off I'm new to the forum. So HELLO everyone. Can I weld 16 gauge 304 stainless with a 120v 80amp ac stick welder? And what electrode would be appropriate? I've read so many conflicting articles (about dc and amperages) that I figured I'd get your guys opinions before I went out and bought rod. I just need to make a few butt and lap joints.
Reply:you can typically run 3/32 down to around 35-40 amps, up too 100, 1/16,..... i have no idea, never ran any. as far as an ac rod, idk, but rule of thumb is the electrode is => parent metal.
Reply:ThanksI've never seen 1/16" stainless rod. It's probably not too popular.
Reply:Stick welding 1/16" stainless is not easy, even for experienced welders. The low open-circuit voltage of a 120V AC welder ain't gonna make it any easier.I have seen 1/16" stainless rod sold by Certanium and others as "maintenance and repair" rods but not by major suppliers. $$$ if you can find them.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps |
