I was on the museum Midway this week and took some photos of their welding shop on board. Unfortunately, the shop is blocked by two doors and people are not allowed inside. The photos are from the open "half doors" and these are the best I could take. There really wasn't much left as far as tools, but there was one very old old Miller (while in color) in the shop. The shop itself was very small, as to be expected on board a ship. I still thought it was very cool. Reply:There were actually two welding shops on the Midway. It was the last of the battle class carriers, meaning that all ranks, shops and sleeping quarters were split with one of each in the front of the ship and the other in the aft of the ship. That way a direct hit couldn't take out all the weldors, boiler makers or any other rank. I was on the USS Osbourne escorting the Midway on her last tour to Vietnam.
Reply:Wow, those were really tight quarters to be doing much welding. I just hope those guys had lots of ventilation in the shop.

Reply:I'm surprised that it not eqiped with mg type welders. I also see that they pull the hinge pins (on the door) a lot so I presume somone lost the door key. Also a ship that old shouldn't be that pollitically correct, (it has too many hazzard zones) should it?Miller thunderbolt 250Decastar 135ERecovering tool-o-holic ESAB OAI have been interested or involved in Electrical, Fire Alarm, Auto, Marine, Welding, Electronics ETC to name a just a few.
