Anybody know what alloy this may be. I thought it might be aluminum but when I put a magnet on it it pulls but only slightly. The majority of the contraption is stainless being a kitchen appliance at chickfila. I need to know what rod I might use to braze it back together. Thanks in advance guys.
Reply:Turns out to be 304 stainless
Reply:That would be my guess.
Reply:304 gets a little bit magnetic when cold formed. Take a piece of 300 series filler and try to stick a magnet to it. No bueno. Now grab the filler about 1/4" apart with 2 pairs of pliers and bend it back and forth until it snaps. Try to stick the magnet to one of the broken ends. Bueno.Experience is something you get right after you need it
Reply:Well the manufacturer said it's 304 going to have another try at it in the morning. Welded the nipple back on around the back side but had a really hard time keeping the main tub part from gouging out around the weld bead. Ended up filling and grinding filling and grinding till I had the inside looking good. Have 3 more to do in the morning I'll get some pictures of the issue then if it persist.I ended up grabbing some 308e/308L 3/32 for the job running about 50 amps. I think the nipples collar is 304 and the tub is some other variant.
