I could stand a welding positioner but man are the expensive. The smallest ones I can find are still twice the size I need. I'm making small parts that I can certainly do by hand but a positoner would come in handy. So I was curious if anybody had ever built one?
Reply:Hi quasi,Try searching WW forum, there are a lot of positioners.A little one posted before is http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ght=positionerDo you need something like this or smaller? What size of pieces will you weld?Best RegardsMauricio
Reply:Hi Quasi, I made a small one using the centre spindle housing from a top loader washing machine. This gave me an alluminium housing about 60mm diam and 300mm long with two ball races inside and a spindle with a 75mm diam flange on top.I added a small electric motor I got out of something that rotated, and a couple of small vee pulleys. The earth pickup was a piece of brass plate that contacted the spindle to form a sliding contact. The 2nd last thing was the shroud off of a 2 stroke lawn mower engine, to keep the welding sparks off the motor etc.Last thing was a foor pedal to inch the spindle round as I migged the job.It worked well and I used it to mig hundreds of small items I had a contract for.Photo if you need it, it's very agricultural, but it's a case of available parts cobbled together from the scrap box, one week end.....couple of hours work.Ian.
Reply:I"ve been looking to make a inexpensive one but have no ideas.I did find this a long time ago but not sure harbor freight still makes them.http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net/thr...ng-For-WeldingLast edited by Gamble; 10-04-2012 at 07:57 AM.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
