I intend to fab my own bed slide but before I do, I want to know what type of bearing is in these pictures 3/4 half way down this page. http://www.joeybedshop.com/I have done some bearing research and came up with what may be cam follower neddle roller bearings. If anyone care to comment, that would be great. I am very anxious to get this project started. The main bed of the platform will be two large pieces of aluminum bent at 90 on the edges. The railing may be 90 degree angle steel in which, two bearings will be pinching the top and bottom sides. The rear end of the stationary bearings will have 4 top and bottom bearings per rail to support the toung weight.Cost is a issue so trying to keep the cost down to a minimum. The total weight the bed will carry is a 41 inch top chest tool box with tools. A 2.5 ton jack and stands and a just of blow molded boxes with test tools in them. Thanks
Reply:Roller Slides --http://www.thomasnet.com/products/ro...5851501-1.htmlFollow the many links for suppliers.Lincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. They come and go. Growing partial to the "Short Hoods" in my old age. Last count on Short Hoods was 13 in possession.
Reply:looks like cam follower bearings
Reply:Looks like a run of the mill sealed bearing with a bolt through it.
Reply:Sounds like you are going fancy with it. For the buget builders out there, my dad built one out of garage door tracks and hardware. It works really well for his purposes. It is mostly wood though.
Reply:http://www.mcmaster.com/#cam-follower-bearings/=jos9i7Think thats the type your looking for, If you can find the here it will save you some money:http://vxb.com/
Reply:Well, I think this is it. I just contacted vxb ..via a nextag referal. The price is right. I suspect that as a minimum bearings to support the platform when it is pulled 80% out, is to have four on each end corner of the support brackets. Two top to bottom pinching a 90 degree angle iron. Then have mabey another eight more installed half way and 3/4 of the way back on the rail. May have to by some good sized nutserts. Once this is done, I may have a market for selling these for my particular truck.
Reply:cool project, very versitile. Please show progress.

Reply:I called another company that makes v grove bearings that are inside tracks. The price was to much and exceeded the new cost of a bed slide already made.So I guess the cam follower bearings are the way to go. Now, Is there a u channel steel that does not have the gradual radius bend in it? I would speculate the edge of the bearing being square would ride up on the edge of the radius of the steel. The only way to prevent this, is to install a strip of nylon on the indide edge so this keeps this from happening. Going to call vxb and see if I can order some bearings.
