Reply:It's a bolt from a mauser(I think).they come with a bolt handle that sticks straight out. Many modify the bolt handle to this turn down style to make it less bulky and easier to use . Nice work

Reply:I'm thinking Mauser as well, though I could be off.I have done this modification to MANY Soviet Mosin Nagant rifles for myself and some friends. You didn't build that.'85 Miller AEAD-200LE
Reply:But,,,,, just because it's called a bolt action doesn't mean you (the owner) actually has to use a bolt. Works for me tho. Reply:Definately a mauser, would know that bolt anywhere. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:Not sure why the owner wants a honest to god bolt on there, you can buy a ready to go bolt hande specifically for that shootin iron for a few bucks. we used to 10 or 12 of em in a summer Attached ImagesExperience is something you get right after you need it
Reply:I hope this answers your question about the bolt. Here's a pic with the handle installed. Zap did a real nice job on this. More on this rifle here http://www.gunco.net/forums/f300/mau...version-68913/I'll post a finished pic tomorrow Attached ImagesLast edited by 7.62x39; 10-01-2012 at 10:44 PM.Reason: typoJust a hobbyist with a Hobart handler 140

Reply:Does this rifle have the Waffenamt?Last edited by Insaneride; 10-01-2012 at 10:32 PM.Reason: Sh!t bird
Reply:No Waffenamt stamp. Almost anything with one would have some sort of collector value. This is actually a 1937 Czechoslovakian VZ-24 (same as large ring Mauser)Just a hobbyist with a Hobart handler 140
Reply:Wow, that must have some collector value. Does it have some war trophy value or do you hunt with it?
Reply:NIce work zap. Did you make the knob also?

Reply:Starting out with a well used 1937 Czechoslovakian VZ-24 (Large ring Mauser)I blueprinted the bolt and receiver and mated it to a Numrich trapdoor trigger guard assembly. Then I inlet it and pillar bedded it into a Boyd's laminate stock. I re-chambered it to .308 Win.  using a 22" Shilen #5 contour barrel with a 1 in 10 twist. I cut off the straight bolt handle and fabricated one of my own, which Zap welded on for MeI drilled, tapped and installed a one piece scope rail, then assembled it using a Bold Optimal trigger, a Titanium firing pin with a speedlock spring and a sporter bolt shroud. I finished it off by adding a grip cap, recoil pad and swivels to the stock. Topping it off is a Simmons 4-12X44 scope and a Harris bi-pod. I fully expect this rifle to shoot MOA. Reply:Really nice rifle, 7.62x39!Nice job Zap!I've thought about doing that to my Mosin, but I would just wind up buying yet another scope (that'd be worth more than the gun it's on)..Buy American, or don't whine when you end up on the bread line.
Reply:If anybody is interested, there is a step by step thread on the building of this rifle posted on my forum.http://www.gunco.net/forums/f300/mau...version-68913/Just a hobbyist with a Hobart handler 140
Reply:great job Zap ! 7.62; target shooter? should be 1"moa at about 800...happy plinking.
Reply:Bolt guns are a bit of a departure for me. Rarely do I start with a manufactured receiver. I usually make my own. I'm primarily an AK guy. This is typical of what I normally build. I bend the receivers up out of a flat. This was a demilled Yugoslavian M-92. I had to pin on a fake silencer in order to be long enough to be legal and naturally it has to be converted to semi-auto. I've built at least one of almost all the AK variants. Reply:Probably the craziest one I ever built was this one. It's a M-1919A4 . belt fed, air cooled, 30 caliber Browning machine gun. (converted to semi-auto) Mounted on a modified German MG-42 anti-aircraft tri-pod Attached ImagesJust a hobbyist with a Hobart handler 140
Reply:Do you ever run across Russian made AK's or in particular a Spetsnaz version?  If you have a pic I would appreciate seeing one. ThanksNice work on the Browning.

Reply:Nice job on the M1919. I wanted a semi auto M60  for a while. Didn't have the cash for a real one, though the semis are almost as expensive. I never really got into the 30 cal Browning's, I preferred the 50's myself. I wouldn't mind one of the .30 cal spade gripped aircraft guns however..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:7.62x39 thanks for that interesting information.  Do you have a custom made ball turning tool to make those mauser handles? I would like to see it if its not proprietary or anything.ZAP, nice photography work. I mean your lighting and perspective are great. Thanks for sharing.
Reply:For the handle I just bent up a 5/16 X 24 bolt. The knob itself I bought from a gunsmithing supply house. I was going to make something myself, but for $6 I didn't even think it was worth my time, so I just went ahead and bought it.DSW,I have the plans for a spade grip for the Browning. It's on my list of things to do and I will get to it eventually. Right now I'm working on a bullpup design AK.
