Why do they have these extra long cups available? I've never used one, and cannot imagine a use for them.
Reply:I use them a lot for pipe welding. For instance i like the #5 extra long cup for branch welding a 1/2" piece of pipe onto an 8" piece of pipe. It helps give you a better tungston angle so the top doesn't undercut. I also use them for a lot of tight position welds. You can see around them a lot easier than the standard ones and you can get your hand further away.
Reply:They are useful for high pressure piping, where the wall thickness is too much for a standard length cup.
Reply:I hardly use them myself, but i pull one out every now and then.They come in handy when squeezing into tight corners on miters and such, but I really tend to use them when I'm welding fittings inside some of the tanks i have to make. Not having the extra cup width blocking the visibility of the tungsten helps out when you just cant seem to get a good view of what your doing. |
