Reply:For that price you could make out nicely on the copper and the steel.I'd like to have it to make a LARGE rotary phase converter out of the motor, but I don't have the cash.That would be a great use for it as it wouldn't involve damaging the machine other than figuring a way to extend the shaft out the end. It could be run off a 100 amp single phase breaker as a phase converter, and started with a single-phase pony motor.

Reply:That thing has a 30hp motor. It would take a huge rotary phase converter. That would be expensive.

Reply:We have a few of those style Hobart machine at work. Ours run on 575v 3 phase power but have course and fine amperage adjustments on them. I dont see any amperage adjustment on that one?Ours also have a polarity switch, I dont seeone on that machine. Reply:I'n not 100% convinced that it is a welder, no polarity, no amp controls, nothing but lugs, power switch, and readouts.  (as mentioned by others)  Hobarts of this age seem to have the "steering wheel" amperage control pretty often, no sign of that.  Closeups of the labels on the lugs would be a bit interesting.  Also thumbscrews on the lugs seems a bit odd.Last edited by Fred s; 03-27-2012 at 07:40 AM.Experience is something you get right after you need it

Reply:I looked around on the web this morn, it is possible that there is a control unit that goes with this welder that would control volts, WFS, etc.  Maybe that is what plugs in on the left side.  The thing I see on the left is pretty low profile for a control knob.Experience is something you get right after you need it
